Description:
Grey, brown or black solid, purple when its purity is higher, the specific gravity is 2.22(18°C), melting point is 2300°C, the product can absorb water in the air and conduct electricity. They higher its purity is, the easier it conducts, it dissolves in water, turns into acetylene and calcium hydroxide and releases heat. This product is lumpy substance, its surface is a little deep gray, has slight nasty smell. It can produce acetylene gas when met water, it can burn when meets fire. The acetylene gas mix with air will form explosive gas (explosive range of acetylene gas in the air is 2.3% - 81%).
Product Usage:
It is a kind of basic material for organic synthesis, and can produce acetylene gas for cutting and welding, also be material for Calcium cyanamide.
1. Resins: Used in the plastics industry, for resin production (PVC, MVC, etc.).
2. Siderurgy and Foundry: Due to the strong desulfuration potential, it is used to remove sulfur from pig iron, steel, cast iron and nickel-iron. Calcium Carbide is also an excellent slag deoxidant agent, providing excellent results for secondary metallurgy during the tapping and in the ladle furnace. In the Cubilot furnace (Cupola) it partially substitutes the metallurgical coke, allowing cast iron production with lower sulfur and operation with better alloy yield.
3. Metal Cutting and Welding: Due to its high flame temperature, the acetylene produced with calcium carbide is ideal for cutting and welding.
4. Soil: Used as a moisture detector due to its high hygroscopic property.
5. Production of Acetylene Black: Used in battery manufacturing.
Storage and Transportation:
The packing must be kept in good condition and the goods should be stored in a dry, cool, and ventilated place. It should be separate from the cargo can burn and acid. It should avoid meet water and moisture. It should give off the Acetylene in iron drum before storing in warehouse. Rolling drums, heavy putting down and colliding are not allowed to avoid the spark lead to explosion
